Weligama
Weligama in the south coast, also known as Sandy Village in Sinhala, is a small fishing village with a sandy beach. Weligama Bay is a popular destination for both novice and experienced surfers. There are several surf schools along the beach where you may also rent surfboards. The bay is suitable for children. Weligama has a season that lasts from October to March.
There are several coastal restaurants and bars, giving the area a relaxed atmosphere.
Midigama beach, only a 10-minute drive from Weligama Bay, is a haven for expert surfers, with waves reaching up to 6ft on a good day.
In the vicinity of Weligama, visitors may visit the Kushatarajagala historical site, a nature sanctuary, a snake farm, stilt fishermen, whale watching, deep-sea fishing, diving, and snorkeling.

- Kushtarajagala Historical Temple
It is a three-meter-tall statue carved into a massive rock. It is thought to have been carved during the 7th and 9th centuries.
There are various folk legends related to the monument, including one about a foreign king who had a skin illness and was healed by a local doctor, after which he constructed a statue of himself to be remembered. According to the second account, it is a Bodhi Sathwa statue, representing a person yearning to become a Buddha in his future life.

Mirissa has evolved into Sri Lanka’s premier whale-watching location, and it is likely the only area where you may see both blue whales and sperm whales, as well as dolphins, on the same cruise. Whale watching season lasts from November to March.
