Kalpitiya/Kudawa
Kalpitiya is a 14-island peninsula on the west coast of Sri Lanka, north of Colombo City. It is a kitesurfers’ heaven, with the wind blowing over the peninsular towards the land, providing a trouble-free ride without the difficulty.
Kudawa Beach in Kalpitiya is a lesser-known beach where you may go for a walk and enjoy the sound of the wind, waves, and the gorgeous sunset.
Kalpitiya is one of three locations in Sri Lanka for whale watching. The months of November to March are ideal for dolphin and whale watching along the Kalpitiya coast. From February through March, there is a decent possibility of seeing sperm whales.

- Kalpitiya Dutch Fort
The fort is approximately square, with walls about 4 meters high, and was built between 1667 and 1676 out of coral and limestone from the surrounding region. It features four bastions and a single entrance. There are still the walls of a church, barracks, dining hall, commander’s apartment, and prison.
- Dutch Church
It is one of the country’s oldest Protestant churches, with a simple architectural design.
The most remarkable part is the tombstones on the floor with various inscriptions and epitaphs.
This church’s belfry and all of its furniture were moved to the Anglican church in Puttalam at some point this century, so it’s mostly empty here.
