Even though Sri Lanka is primarily a Buddhist country, everyone observes Christmas as a public holiday. Those with children, in particular, participate in the festive joy by decorating a Christmas tree and putting lights around their houses.
The streets are decked, particularly in Colombo, and big Christmas trees are set up at commercial malls. Christmas dinner dances and Christmas parties are held at commercial establishments and hotels around the island.
Santa Claus is also a significant component of the holiday celebrations in Sri Lanka. Churches, media organizations, and business enterprises have recently taken particular measures to organize charity drives to aid individuals in need, and the response has been astounding.
