The most prominent beaches in Sri Lanka have great wind and weather conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing depending on the monsoon season. And along the beaches, there are windsurfing and kitesurfing schools, as well as equipment rental services. The beaches also offer a variety of water sports including waterskiing, scuba diving, snorkeling, jet-skiing, and fun boat rides.
Sri Lanka is a renowned kitesurfing destination, having some of the greatest flat water kite spots on the planet.
Windsurfing is also feasible inland in Sri Lanka, on lagoons and lakes like Negombo, Bolgoda, and Bentota.

Hikkaduwa
Hikkaduwa is a popular beach destination for sunbathing, scuba diving, and surfing. It is one of Sri Lanka’s best surfing destinations, with jetties, reefs, and beach breaks.
Midigama
Midigama Beach, only a 10-minute drive from Weligama Bay, is a haven for expert surfers, with waves reaching up to 6ft on a good day.
Polhena
The beach is excellent for swimming, surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. But it is not a popular vacation location due to a lack of lodging.
Tangalle
Though the beach and bay here are stunning, and the water is deep blue and beautiful, swimming at Tangalle Beach is not recommended since the tides may be fairly rough and dangerous.

Kalpitiya
It is a kite surfers’ heaven, with the wind blowing over the peninsular towards the land, providing a trouble-free ride without the difficulty.
The season ideal for beginners is during December to March.
Negombo
Negombo’s beach is broad enough to allow kite surfers to have a flawless take-off and landing. Definitely provides an amazing kitesurfing experience.

Bentota
This lovely and lengthy stretch of beach is great for unwinding, watersports and family vacations. Bentota is another great location where the wind blows in the ideal direction for kitesurfing.
- East Coast
Arugam Bay
Arugam Bay is widely regarded as the greatest surf spot in Sri Lanka and one of the top ten surf destinations in the world. Its high-quality surf breaks cater to all levels of surfers. Many surfing events are held here annually.
Nilaveli
Nilaveli is one of the more pristine beaches, a stretch of white sand and azure waters and the beach is still mostly deserted. Nilaveli coast with great biodiversity is an ideal spot for surfing, diving, snorkeling, and whale watching.
Uppuveli
The beach adjacent to Nilaveli Beach is perfect for relaxing beach holidays and viewing stunning sunrises. The beach is ideal for kitesurfing and windsurfing, as well as exploring the reef.
