The 48km long Adam’s Bridge is a chain of limestone shoals and sand dunes between Pambalm island of India and the Mannar island of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan end of the bridge was declared as the Adam’s Bridge National Park which covers 18990ha. According to geological evidence and records found the bridge formerly was a land connection between the two countries and could go across by foot until stormed deepened the channels in 1480.
The park is a stopover and breeding ground for the migratory birds that visit Sri Lanka.
It is a marine conservation area that hosts a variety of fish and aquatic grasses. Dolphins, Dugongs and Turtles can be seen in the sea surrounding the park.
It is also an ideal spot for kite surfing
